TWO CELTIC WAR DOGS

My Two Celtic Dogs were the first production piece of my Celtic Art collection. I drew them for my friend Halldor of the SCA (Society For Creative Anachronisms). I had a blank sheet of paper before me and asked, "What should I draw?". Halldor said, "How about two Celtic Dogs wrapped about a wagon wheel biting each other's necks." I thought for a moment and said, "Six or eight spokes?". The result was this piece featuring two Celtic War Dogs rather than Celtic Hound Dogs (war dogs have shorter noses.) The green and brown study was my original color choice, but I also did a red and black/gray study to add a little variety to this design.

TWO CELTIC DRAGONS

My Two Celtic Dragons were the second piece in my Celtic Art collection. I wanted to spilt a circle along its equator and create two very different looks for the top and bottom hemispheres. I drew the two Celtic Dragon heads in profile looking toward 5:00 and 7:00 respectively. They are each breathing curls of Celtic Spiral fire. The Celtic knot in this design begins with one head and curls about until it exits through the other head. Currently, my Blue-Black and Red-Black Celtic Dragons are available in fine art prints. I've retired the Purple-Blue and Yellow-Green Celtic Dragon design.

THE CELTIC WOLF

My Celtic Wolf was my first true Celtic Fusion piece. I saw this design clearly in my mind's eye before I began sketching. I knew I wanted to transform the iconic "southwestern" wolf pose we all know into a Celtic Wolf design, so I began by sketching the wolf's outline and then adding Celtic knots to form the wolf's features. I then placed the Celtic Wolf against a Celtic Spiral Moon. I could have rendered the moon in a solid Celtic knot, but moons are soft and subtle, and Celtic spirals lent themselves much better to the study. Keeping the moon in a Celtic spiral motif allowed the Celtic Wolf to stand out much better in the overall composition. The Celtic Wolf is available in every color you see here except red, which I've retired from my collection. The Celtic Wolf in blue and the Textured Celtic Wolf are two of my best selling pieces.
